Hey there, Planning Center!

I'm David, and I love to make web apps. I think we should chat.

About Me

First off, I'm a Christian. I think it's pretty important to lead off with that - I'm a sinner, saved by the grace of God. Bringing glory to Him should be our first priority in all of life, including (maybe even especially) at work. "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever."

I'm a Web Developer. I found my passion for programming in High School, but I moved into tech support and consulting for several years after graduating. While working on a website for a client, I realized I still really enjoyed web development. After thinking and praying over it, my wife and I decided that it would be a better career path for me any my family.

I'm currently a Senior Software Developer at Cozi Inc, a subsidiary of Time Inc (the magazine publisher). Cozi has two products: the Cozi Family Organizer, a mobile and web app to help families stay organized; and the Cooking Light Diet, a web app that provides customized diet plans. I've been working on the Cooking Light Diet since June 2015, and I've been the lead developer of the team for almost a year now.

I'm always learning. I know, it's a total cliche, but I really do love to learn new things. Outside of work, family comes first, so my time for side projects is pretty limited. But I've found that I learn best by doing. Working on a real project, and learning as I go, is a whole lot more fun than the old "Hello World".

Cooking Light Diet only uses vanilla JavaScript and jQuery, but one of my current learning interests is React. I'm starting to come to grips with the fact that JavaScript is the future, at least for the front-end, and I want to stay up with the times!

I'm also experimenting with static site generators - heck, this is a Middleman site running on Netlify! My goal is to get my blog re-launched as a part of the "May 1 Reboot" initiative.

About You

You're a different kind of company. You don't have any debt, you don't even take calls from investors, and you don't have any sales people. Wow! You've been around for almost 10 years - you must be doing something right!

You stay true to your focus. For as long as you've been around, you've only made software for churches. So many companies lose their focus by branching out for more money. You haven't compromised on your mission to make an easy buck.

I've used your products in the past. Back in '08, the youth group I was a part of used Planning Center Online, and I convinced the worship coordinator for my church to start using it for Sunday services too! I've since moved to a different church, and haven't gotten involved with the worship teams there...but I have seen Planning Center service plan printouts in their sound booth!

I think we'd be a great fit.

I'm ready for new set of challenges, and to be a part of a bigger team. I also miss working in a Christian environment. You fit that bill, and then some. Plus, looks like you already have two Davids on the dev team, so let's break the tie with those Eriks!

I live just outside of Seattle, in Sammamish. While working from home is a big draw for me, I'm able to pop into the Ballard office fairly easily!

Let's talk.
